I stay up late because it's one of the only things about my life I can control.....?

Q) I have to be up in 5 hours for work and for some reason I love to sit up in my bed on the internet or reading a book - anything except sleeping - because I can!! It makes me suffer the next day but I love to feel in control of something! Anyone else do this?

A) No. I can think of other ways to take control, especially if not sleeping is going to make me suffer. That sounds like out of control, not in control.

Has anyone been involved in a spectacular car accident? Was it terrifying, or surreal?

Q) (or both). What happened? Did you roll the car? Did it feel strange to turn upside down inside the car? Did everything happen in slow motion? Did you life flash before your eyes? Did you think wicked thoughts of lust and violence, or were you consumed with the spirituality of the church? Is my frequent use of question marks getting on your nerves... ? (No I haven't been in one myself, and I feel sorry for those who have suffered badly in them) Natz: Its not sick because I'm not forcing anyone to say anything they don't want to. Its not like I'm taking a video camera of somebody dying in a wreaked car without their permission, obviously. Which would I agree be in very bad taste.

A) November 26, 2006 and December 2, 2006. My bf and I got into two car accidents in just a span of six days - EXTREMELY SURREAL AND QUITE TRAUMATIC. Both accidents were not our fault. BANG!! That was how fast it went. It all happened so quickly - no time for my entire life to flash before my eyes - no time to think -no time for anything -- just a feeling of dread and doom. On a lighter note, we both walked out of it, so I can't complain (much - haha). Sure feels good to be alive.

How can I get back a deleted message that was placed in the bulk emails. It was from the beggining of January.

A) When you delete a file it may be retrievable, because when you delete, what you are doing is simply making the space that the file occupied available to be overwritten. However, once a file has been overwritten a few times it does then become increasingly hard to retrieve. If it is important, then go to a forum and ask the question. You will be directed to software that you can use free to try and retrieve the message. Try the Computeractive forum (www.computeractive.co.uk) called 'Readers To The Rescue'. I can almost guarantee you will get positive help.

What should I use to cover my birds cage???

Q) I recently bought a parakeet from petsmart.I tried covering the cage with a thin sheet at night but the birds claw got stuck in it,when it was crawling on the top of the cage.

A) I have a piece of cardboard about an inch larger than the top of the cage, so when I cover them they never touch the cover, and it wont hurt them to claw or bite at the cardboard.

What's the basis for left side driving in the UK?

Q) Why did they choose something that is opposite to what everyone else does? And why are they the only ones to do it?

A) In the past, almost everybody travelled on the left side of the road because that was the most sensible option for feudal, violent societies. Since most people are right-handed, swordsmen preferred to keep to the left in order to have their right arm nearer to an opponent and their scabbard further from him. Moreover, it reduced the chance of the scabbard (worn on the left) hitting other people. Furthermore, a right-handed person finds it easier to mount a horse from the left side of the horse, and it would be very difficult to do otherwise if wearing a sword (which would be worn on the left). It is safer to mount and dismount towards the side of the road, rather than in the middle of traffic, so if one mounts on the left, then the horse should be ridden on the left side of the road. In the late 1700s, however, teamsters in France and the United States began hauling farm products in big wagons pulled by several pairs of horses. These wagons had no driver's seat; instead the driver sat on the left rear horse, so he could keep his right arm free to lash the team. Since he was sitting on the left, he naturally wanted everybody to pass on the left so he could look down and make sure he kept clear of the oncoming wagon’s wheels. Therefore he kept to the right side of the road.

How long does it take to get to Stonehenge from London?

If you have 1000 US dollars how much is it in British pounds?

A) A pound is worth about $1.80 US, so multiply pounds by 1.8 to get dollars and divide dollars by 1.8 to get pounds. So to your question, $1000 US/1.8 = 555 pounds, depending on the exact exchange rate.

do u know how much it will cost if u go or travel in california to london??

A) This depends. I just flew from Northern California to London round-trip on a big airline for just under $600. From where are you traveling, and what time of year? If you start searching now (pay attention to the major newspapers in your area. Big airlines usually print their special deals as advertisements), you'll find a lower cost ticket than if you just wait around.

How long does it take to acquire a (British) accent?

Q) or any accent in general? ; P

A) Well - that depends on what accent you have at the moment. It's not just the accent - using the right words is also important. I've been practising my British accent for 42 years, so I'm quite good at it by now lol :-D But my ex GF is American, from Pittsburgh PA, so I know a lot of American words/phrases which mean nothing in British English. If you're really determined, you could travel to Britain do some work/voluntary work/study or something, then you'll get it VERY quickly. Good luck :-) DC www.tigerworld.tv

evolution question, no religious answers please I really don't need it.?

Q) Why did we evolve larger brains, sharks have been around for a mighty long time and stayed pretty much the same for the last 200 million years. Sharks is just one example of many. why us? Pray tell. Please don't respond with religious answers.

A) Evolution is the result of natural selection acting upon random genetic changes. We evolved to have large brains because they enabled us to out-compete other animals for environmental resources. The animals with less able brains had fewer offspring while we had more. It seems that our brains are engineered for problem solving and cooperating with other people. At the same time and in the same environment, other animals were succeeding by developing other abilities. For example, antelope survive by running fast. Ants survive by being small and numerous. Dung beetles survive by eating stuff that most animals don't want. Evidently, sharks don't need larger brains. They succeed by being able to swim fast and having sharp teeth--lots of them! Also, the fact that sharks have existed for 200 million years does not mean that they have not evolved. Other fish may have evolved from them to take advantage of ecological niches that sharks do not. (I don't know whether that is the case with sharks, but certainly, other organisms have done this.) Although sharks aren't that smart, other ocean animals are. Dolphins are extremely intelligent, at least as intelligent as chimps. Octopuses are very intelligent and have extremely large brains for their body size. A two-year old octopus, which is elderly for octopusses, can solve the same problems as a two-year old human. One wonders what things would be like if their lifespans were as long as ours. An even better example of an unchanged organism is the brachiopod (clam-like animal) Lingula. It has remained unchanged for nearly 600 million years. It lives in a very unfavorable environment--dirty water with little oxygen. Apparently, it is so well adapted to that environment that no other organism can displace it.

If I Did It - O.J. Book?

Q) Judith Reagan can't publish the O.J. Book, but now Fred Goldman purchases the rights to it and shops it around himself? Is this something (Ron) would have wanted him to do, or is he just making the best of a bad situation?

A) Has everyone forgotten that OJ had a ghost writer who wrote those words for him to sell the book? Do you really think those words are true? Everybody did just what OJ wanted - more publicity. I think he loves to rib people just for the publicity, and you haters play right into it. If you can't prove that he did it, and he knows that he didn't do it, he's an actor, so he will play the part that pays him the most money. Being quiet won't do that. So, what do you think?

For those that support free speech what about this site ? Ban it? www.niggermania.com?

IT Job Opportunities?

Q) I have heard that the IT field 's employment is very low in the US.I have heard it from friends and relatives and not from any authorized source , they said that IT 's job opportunities are filled with japanese and chinese work force and there are no job positions left for anyone!!! and apart from that,i have heard many times that IT does not have much job opportunities.i'm gonna study IT,is that a true fact? what do you suggest?

A) There will ALWAYS be jobs in IT. The people complaining are the ones that are not willing to re-educate themselves to stay competitive against the cheaper work force in overseas. Nowadays, the safest IT positions are the ones where you are project managers and you have the personal skills to allow you to relay messages between technical and non-technical. You must also have an eye for good talent and to be able to get rid of wasted talent. If you are a programmer, being an up-to-date web developer is also very favorable here. What field of IT exactly are you looking to do? There's openings everywhere, you may have to move but if you talk to everyone, you will find your home sooner or later!

A) White Stripes are a 2 person band. On a recording, one person could play 10 different instruments. Paul McCartney did that on some of his records.

Married but don't want it to end?

Q) We have been together since 2001. We date for 3yrs and got married oct. 2004. We have had the trouble of talking to one anothor. She worked 10pm-7am and i worked two jobs to help pay the bills. I worked between 12 to 15hrs per day for 2 yrs. She always thought that i was cheating on her. I never cheated i don't belive in that. She left me this year Jan. 2 2007. She keeps bring up the past. I have done and said alot of bad thing but if she wants it to work we have to get help so we can move on. But I think she is move on to a new guy in the car club she as join. I just want to get my life back. She is my first wife and my first love. I don't belive in divorce but she move out and she is filling for it. Only with the help of god i am geting thorugh this hard time.

A) She talks about the past because for her, it's still fresh in my mind. My ex said the same thing... so therefore, since it was over in his head, he thought that was the end of it. It wasn't. He wouldn't listen. Ultimately, I left him because he would not listen and was mentally abusive. Good luck, i hope things work out for you.

What does it mean when a potential employer runs my credit history?

Q) Does it mean that I am close to getting the job, or are they running all other candidates info as well?

A) Normally you would be notified that they have started a background check on you. Did anybody call and tell you that? Or were you told that during your interview? Did they discuss with you that they are going to run one on all the candidates? Typically a company does not go to the expense and effort of a background check on you (including credit history) unless they are pending a job offer to you. Give a call to the company and ask them for an update on the process and if they have filled the position yet.

I'm a senior accounting major and not sure if I really like it. I'm graduating next spring. What should I do?

Q) I decided after high school (without ever taking any accounting courses) that I would be an accounting major. I've thought about what else I would do, but I can't find anything that truly inspires me. I switched my major at the end of last fall semester to econ because I thought I liked it. After a few boring classes, I decided I definitely don't want to do that. I thought I missed accounting. So now I'm back in accounting and still confused. My grades are not as great as they used to be and I'm just not interested in learning this stuff. I'm burnt out on school and am just ready to get it over with. But what should I do when I graduate? I'm so confused!

A) Change majors and find something you like. The honest reality of life is getting paid good money is important but if you don't like what you do the pay will lose its affect pretty easily. So search yourself and just find something you enjoy. Unfortunately after college their really isn't anyone to tell you what to do in life. That is up to you so find something you enjoy and go with it!!!

If you are divorced in Alabama & the father is in arrears, do they deduct it from his income taxes ?

Q) I know they do if it's through DHR, but i wondered if it's the same with divorce ?

A) You bet. There are NO deadbeat dads in Alabama. ALL child support payments are deducted from the fathers paycheck and sent directly to the state, then paid to the ex/childs mother direct. There are very few ways out or around this situation other than not working, getting paid cash by employer (which is a severe fine) or the deadbeat moving to Texas of South Carolina. These states will not support AL mandatory child support wage withholding. You need to contact the state agency in charge of child welfare and tell them your situation -- have your divorce paperwork handy when you call.

Is it legal to run a business and work for someone in the same business at the same time?

Q) Say for example you're a plumber. You work for a plumbing company and also do your independent plumbing whenever someone calls you. Is this wrong?

A) It depends on whether or not you signed a non-compete agreement with your current employer. Most of the skilled tradesmen that I know do this at least occasionally.

Duh, Osama did it!?? But what fell the towers & anthrax?Or was that Osama 2?Wazzup?Why war?lets have peace !!!
